Chayote & Cilantro Green Tonic
This refreshing drink combines the hydrating properties of chayote with the antioxidant benefits of cilantro and the circulatory support of garlic and lime.
Ingredients
- 1 medium Chayote: Peeled (optional) and pitted.
- 1 handful Fresh Cilantro: Including stems for extra nutrients.
- 1 clove Garlic: Peeled (can be omitted if you prefer a milder taste).
- 1 whole Lime: Juiced.
- 1 cup Water: Or coconut water for added electrolytes.
- Optional: A small piece of fresh ginger for an anti-inflammatory kick.
Instructions
- Prep the Chayote: Cut the chayote into small cubes to make it easier to blend.
- Combine: Place the chayote, cilantro, garlic, and lime juice into a blender.
- Liquify: Add the water and blend on high speed until the mixture is completely smooth.
- Serve: Drink immediately for the highest nutrient density. If the texture is too thick, you can strain it through a fine-mesh sieve, though keeping the pulp provides more fiber.
Why These Ingredients?
- Chayote: Low in calories and high in potassium, which helps manage blood pressure and reduce water retention (swelling).
- Cilantro: Contains antioxidants that may help remove heavy metals from the body and support heart health.
- Garlic: Famous for its ability to improve blood flow and lower “bad” LDL cholesterol.
- Lime: Rich in Vitamin C, which aids in the absorption of iron (crucial for addressing anemia).
Note: If you are taking medication for blood pressure or blood thinners, please consult with your doctor before adding large amounts of garlic or concentrated green juices to your daily routine, as they can interact with certain prescriptions.
